Onboarding Wizard
The setup wizard is the guided run through Passport's first-day decisions — church details, your people, service times, how you welcome visitors — in the order that causes the least rework.
What you need
- A Passport account with the Admin or Super Admin role
- Your church address and service times
- A list of your people, if you are moving from another system
The wizard opens by itself the first time you sign in. You can also reach it at /onboarding.
:::tip You can leave and come back Progress saves as you go. Close the tab at step 4 and you will start at step 4 next time. :::
The steps
Some steps only appear if your plan includes them, so you may see fewer than ten.
1. Confirm your church
Name, address, phone, and the timezone everything else is scheduled in. This is the information that appears on your Plan Your Visit page, on printed cards, and in the footer of every message you send. You cannot skip it.
2. Bring your data
Import people from Breeze, Planning Center, or a CSV. Doing this before anything else matters more than it looks — building groups by hand first means duplicating everything your old system already knows. See Importing & Exporting Data.
3. When do you meet?
Your service times. We pre-fill Sunday at 10:30 so nothing is blank; correct it. Guests pick a real service when they plan a visit, and attendance is recorded against it, so a wrong time here is wrong in several places at once.
4. How will you welcome visitors?
Choose how guests reach you — a QR connection card they fill in on their own phone, a staff member with a tablet, or both. This sets up the Visitor Connection Card and staff intake. You cannot skip it.
5. How people grow
The stages a person moves through on the way to membership, and what your church counts as membership — attendance, baptism, a class, a signed agreement. See Visitor-Member Path.
6. Turn on automated follow-up
Get a texting number and switch on the messages that go out after a first visit. Guests answer texts and ignore email; without a number the inbox and reminders stay off however they are configured.
7. Let guests plan a visit
Publish the page guests use to tell you they are coming. This sits immediately after follow-up on purpose — "turn on automated follow-up" and "publish the page guests use to plan a visit" are one conversation, and a funnel nobody sets up during setup is a funnel nobody uses.
8. Invite your team
Add the people who will use Passport and give them roles. Care assignments have to land on a real person; until someone else signs in, every follow-up task belongs to you. See Users & Roles.
9. Set up online giving
Connect Stripe so members can give online, and so giving history lands on the same person record as everything else.
10. You're ready for Sunday
The last step hands you your Visit Page link and a printable QR code for the welcome desk. Print it before you leave.
What happens next
Finishing the wizard opens your Setup Center — the same ground, but as a running checklist you come back to. Anything you skipped here shows up there as an unfinished milestone rather than being lost.
Common questions
| Question | Answer |
|---|---|
| I skipped a step. Is it gone? | No. Every skipped step reappears in the Setup Center. |
| Can I run it again? | The wizard is once per church, but everything it sets is editable under Admin → Settings. |
| I saw fewer than ten steps | Steps for features your plan does not include are hidden. Check Admin → Settings → Plan & Billing. |
| Do I need my people imported first? | Not to finish the wizard, but importing before you build groups saves the most rework. |
